different refund amt,s on federal return

i filed my federal taxes and it said my refund total payments were $3469 but my amount to be refunded is $2656. what happened?

What lines on your tax return?  You don't get all your payments back.  Payments, withholding and credits are subtracted from the total tax on your income giving you a refund or more tax due.

When I filed the first time, the return said the amt refunded should be  $2656 and I filed it. then it had been a few weeks so I decided to check on it because my son in law , who filed a week later, got his back. so then I checked it again and the turbo tax changed the refund amt to $3469. why and how do I get the IRS to chang to the new refund amt? line 34 and line 35a.
