Was it the letter giving you like 5 reasons why they adjusted your return? Those are generic reasons.
Did you already get the 3rd Stimulus (1,400 per person) they sent out last year starting in March 2021? You each should also get IRS letter 6475 saying what they sent you. Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.
If you claimed a missing stimulus payment on your return but the IRS took it off you have to ask the IRS. They think they already sent it to you. Maybe it went to an account you don't remember. Or you got a check or a card. It was probably easy to miss the debit card in the mail and think it was junk mail. They have to put a trace on it.
Double check your bank accounts and check your IRS account (both accounts if married) to see how much the IRS sent you.

If you didn't get the 3rd Stimulus check but the IRS shows they sent it to you then request a trace for a missing third Stimulus payment

After spending 3.5 hours on the phone with the IRS (at least 2 on hold) this appears to be a glitch in the TurboTax software. When we added the $2800 from the 6475 letters to the Recovery Rebate section, TurboTax added it to our amount owed. We called TurboTax and the consultant told us to put $0 in that section. IRS then sent us a CP11 saying we owed the $2800. When going through the IRS Taxpayer Advocate ( the only way we could get through to a person at the IRS instead of the "due to the high volume of calls , call later or try on the next business day" message and then be disconnected), the IRS agent insisted we still owed that amount. Not satisfied with that answer we were transferred to a Supervisor. The Supervisor then said this was a common problem they were experiencing with TurboTax users. They then amended our tax return to reflect the proper amount owed. Within hours this was reflected in our TurboTax data to show the amount owed minus $2800. I can only assume that the $2800 should be added in TurtboTax and then a CP11 would be issued to remove the $2800 from the amount owed or refund. I hope this post will help out other users in the future.
Sorry you got bad advice. You needed to enter the full 2800 you got. It was right your tax due went up. You do owe it back. I didn't understand the rest of your post. If the IRS changes or amends your tax return they don't update Turbo Tax. I don't understand how your Turbo Tax data reflected any changes.
It is not taxable and you aren't paying it back. Your 2021 return starts out by assuming you didn't get any Stimulus payments so it gives you credit for the full amount and your refund was too high. Then near the end you enter how much you actually got so it only gives you the difference if any. So you don't get it again.
I received this, as well. But, Turbotax doesn't update/reflect any IRS adjustments. Does the notification, stating "...decreased amount of refund to $00.00" in regards to the stimulus monies or my total refund?
Sorry that is your total refund now after the IRS took off the Recovery Rebate Credit you already got. You tried to claim it again on line 30. Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.
