Dependent misfiled as not a dependent, refiled, and my taxes are being rejected.

Hi,  My daughter file her taxes and did NOT say that she was a dependent on my taxes (She's 18, wanted to do it herself).  When I attempted to file it was rejected.  I figured out what the problem was and did and filed and addendum (electronically) that was accepted by the IRS.  I tried to refile and was rejected again.  How long does it normally take or what should I do now?  Any suggestions?

The only way you can file this year is by mail.  Even if you amended your child's return, the amended return will not catch up in the system this year.   You cannot e-file this year.   You will have to print, sign and date your own return in ink, and mail it in.  Expect a much longer processing time.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
