Confused over rejection due to dependent filing

So I had my taxes rejected after my dependent son's taxes were filed.  I checked his tax form and he does have student and "claimed as a dependent by someone else" selected in his tax filing.  What am I missing that he needed to address in Turbotax?  I can't figure out what I need to correct to file an amended return for him so that my taxes will not be rejected. We used our copy of Home and Business by just filed a basic W-2 for him for the summer job he had which earned ~$3100.  Frustrating. Now, I am on crutches and I need to get to Post Office on Monday.

Once a return has been e-filed reporting a Social Security Number, regardless of dependency status, a second return cannot be e-filed with the same Social Security Number.  It is an IRS rule.  You, unfortunately, are going to have to print and mail your return in.

@mgbtoy

What is your REJECTED message and errorcode?

It can't be because he already filed.

There's nothing you can do to his tax return.

It must be fixed on your tax return.

You comment is confusing and irrelevant.

If you can't get to the Post Office submit request for extension of time to file.

You don’t need to file Form 4868 if you make a payment using the IRS
electronic payment options. Your extension will be automatically
processed when you pay part or all of your estimated income tax
electronically. You can pay online or by phone.

Any small amount will do.

But, you must bring your total tax paid by Tax Day up to 80% of your final tax to stay in good graces with the IRS.

You can pay all or part of your estimated income tax due and **indicate that the payment is for an extension** using Direct Pay, the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, or using a credit or debit card. Your extension is then automatically granted and you will receive a confirmation number for your records.

Confused over rejection due to dependent filing

Ok Thank you.  I just received a rejection status for my son's fed tax form too.  So, I don't know if I can amend  something to be able to eFile or if anyone filing as HOH with a dependent child, who has earns to report, has the same electronic issue.

OK, that's new information.

now @AliciaP1  comment becomes relevant.

Presumably, someone grabbed your son's SSN and filed a tax return with it.

(you still haven't said what the REJECTION message is).

If I have to mail my return do I still pay for the electronic return?

When using the TurboTax online editions there are no e-file fees for either a federal or state tax return.  The TurboTax account fees are for the use of the software to assist in completing a tax return.  The account fees are the same whether the tax return is e-filed or printed for mailing.
