Claimed dependent that had income

Hello,

My son is 16 and had $3500 in income. I claimed him as dependent on my tax return, but then tried to file his taxes as a claimed dependent and turbotax says "the submission is a duplicate of one that was previously received". How do I fix this? It is showing he should get a refund of $107 but I am unable to efile it. Thank you

Are you sure he checked the box saying he can be claimed on someone else's return? Look on 1040 under his name and address. For Standard Deduction - someone can claim you.

Hello,

thank you for your response, I just went through both electronically and paper copy checked and yes the box is checked for being claimed as a dependent. I believe turbotax is seeing his ssn filed under my return and now won't let me file separately for him.

Maybe he already filed a return? Maybe double check.

When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. And check your spam folder for them.

When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. What does it say?
