Can I see if cancer-related expenses affect my return before amending it? My return has been accepted, but TT didn't ask about medical expenses, and I have a lot.

Yes. If you did not itemize already, a good idea is to multiply your AGI by 7.5% and subtract that from your medical expenses. That will give you an idea of how much is usuable on Schedule A. Then see how many other deductions you have to add to it. That will give you a rough idea of what your itemized expenses would be in contrast to the standard deduction.

The standard deductions for 2018 are:

Single                             $12,000

Married Filing Jointly     $24,000

Head of Household        $18,000

You can amend returns that have been accepted by the IRS. If your return is pending, you won't be able to make any changes until it's accepted or rejected by the IRS. If you don't know your e-file status, we can help you check it

Be sure to print out a copy (or save a pdf copy) before making any changes.

Select a tax year for specific amending instructions.

Keep in mind: You have 3 years from the date you filed your return (or 2 years after you paid the tax due, whichever is later) to file an amended return, which means you don't have to get it done by the April 15 filing deadline.

For those taxpayers who are 65 and older or blind, add another $1300 for each condition.

Even if they don't help for Federal, they might for State.
