Can I get a copy of the file sent to the IRS by TurboTax for my 2017 return?

I have just (Aug 12, 2019) received a message from the IRS stating that nearly none of the 2017 1099-B, 1099-DIV, and 1099-INT data that they have on file matches my tax return.  They detail the transactions, all of which match the proceeds I reported.  However, none of the data provided by the IRS includes a basis for the original purchases.  So, they think I under-reported a whole lot of stock sales.  But I didn't.

I have just opened my return for the first time since the day I filed it, and everything that the IRS says is missing is included in my return.  The refund ETF'd to my bank account matches the refund amount in my .tax2017 file.

I didn't keep the emails sent by TurboTax confirming receipt of my return, or of its status with the IRS.  Is there some way to get a copy of that file from TurboTax?  Or is there a way to determine from TurboTax if the file sent to the IRS contains the information that I think it contains?

If you can view your return, you should also be able to print all of the forms filed with your return.

I'd copy your entire Schedule D,  including all forms filed with the IRS, and mail as supporting documentation.  The notice you received from the IRS contains instructions on how to reply to them, as well as a time deadline in which to reply.

As long as you mail documentation that supports your claim that your return is correct, you should be good.  I have no explanation as to why the forms the IRS says they received were incomplete, but you have the completed forms.

Be sure to include a cover letter when you respond to the IRS that explains what's included in your mailing.  Additionally, mail your return by certified mail so that a signature is required on receipt.
