Can I file my 1098T with an 8863 form after I have filed my taxes? Is there a specific deadline or did it need to be done with my taxes at the same time?

My parent has claimed me and we both completed our taxes. On her side it said I was eligible for a refund and she already submitted her tax form without the information for the refund. Is there any way to have that added before the tax refund is sent to our accounts?

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.

If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.

Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.

If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.

Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed

The Form 1040X you need will not be available until late February.

It is the parent that files 1098T and 8863 and claims education credits.

Parent should amend to add them.

You do need to be clear about the education credits and the 1098-T.

The 1098-T contains INFORMATION.

The 1098-T is entered into TurboTax to see if

There is an available Education Credit

There is taxable income which the student needs to report

Normally the Taxpayer claiming the student (parents) enters the 1098-T so that the program can do the math.

If there is a credit, the parents get the credit

If there is taxable income, the student claims that income.

HER TurboTax program might tell her that she is eligible for an Education Credit based on your 1098-T OR it might tell her that YOU need to claim income relating to the 1098-T, but HER program would not tell her that YOU are eligible for a refund.

To help, we would need more information, such as the numbers on the 1098-T and Form 8863 (which should have been generated as part of your mother's tax return.
