Can I file a form 982 as an amendment to my tax return?

I filed my tax return and paid taxes on the canceled debt. Can I file the form 982 after the fact and get a refund?

Hi. Thanks for your response. It is cancellation of credit card debt. I am was insolvent at the time, but didn't know I could claim that. I had to borrow the money for the tax payment.

What are the correct steps to amend my return to properly account for backdooring a traditional to roth IRA? Box 4(b) is still showing the full amount after revisiting.
