Can I add a newborn to my 2020 tax return?

I've filled my 2020 tax return and they have been accepted. I'll have a newborn baby after June 2021. Can I add him in my 2020 tax return by amending my taxes?

No.  He will go on your 2021 tax return next year.

On your 2021 tax return, when TurboTax asks how many months the child lived with you in 2021, select "the whole year." A child who was born during the year is counted as having lived with you for the whole year.

Can I still qualify for the $300 child credit that has been put out by president?

At the beginning of July the IRS is supposed to have a web site, or "portal," where you will be able to tell them about your new baby so that you can get the monthly advance payments of the child tax credit. No information is available yet about how this portal is going to work.

If you are not able to get the advance payments, you will get the credit on your 2021 tax return.
