California E-file rejected three times even the correction line suggested in form 3840

E-file rejection error: CA-Return/CA-ReturnData/CAForm3840/LikeKindExchangeInfo/PropertyGivenUpDesc/RealPropertyAddress/City - Data in

the return is missing or invalid. Please double check your entries.

I corrected three times the same line of the property description and rejected the e-file three times.

The above error is not allowing me to e-file, The same situation happened in 2019 e-filing for California and I was forced to do the postal mail. I already paid Turbo Tax for CA State e-filing, why I have to go through this trouble of mail again for 2020? Please help me.

California E-file rejected three times even the correction line suggested in form 3840

I am having trouble in E-filing for CA state with Form 3840, Line 1 and 2 of Part I, tried all possible ways to enter the addresses, the county legal address, there is no street number as it is a vacant land. After correcting 15 different way of entering addresses, still, my e-file after transmitting , it rejecting right away, so I am not sure the Turbo tax server puts the flag on my e-filing immediately!!!!  Definitely its a Turbo Tax glitch for these address lines. I talked to Turbo-Tax  tech person as well as the Turbo-Tax  tax expert, but nothing worked with their suggestion and helps. I had a same problem for 2019 tax.

Turbo Tax has to fix this problem ASAP.  I need help in e-filing 2020 tax, this will be every year issue, .

as this form requires to file every year......Please help help help...........

Please follow the answer provided here, as you can e-file but you would need to confirm it.

California E-file rejected three times even the correction line suggested in form 3840

I amended my 2019 California as my e-file was rejected and I did not dig too much last year and just postal mail my filling of 2019. The year 2020 of California e-filing also was rejected for the same reason of not correct data and property address on form 3840, even I was entering the correct information.

Talked to two different Turbo Tax support expert, but no success, also called California Franchise Tax support and learned that there is nothing received for my Tax on their side, she suggested to get help from Turbo.  I was determined to e-file 2020, was paid last year and this year too did not give up.

At least 15 times resubmission with different iterations, read the instruction for IRS- form 8824 and FTB- form 3840.  Finally,  My e-filing of California 2020 SUCCESSFULLY accepted and so sharing here what I did.

  1. MY e-filing  2019  was rejected last year due to FTB form-3840, did amendment  by correcting the following items and postal mailed on 4/16/2021

  1. Part I, Line 1 & 2: Address of the property:
  2.  I input in the box for Parcel and County (Right side of the input BOX lines) with  APN info, followed by the Block and lot number,  In the next line,  input the county name.

Then input on the left side box, city, state, and zip-code.

  1. Part II lines 7 to 20:  Per FTB instruction, these lines should correspond to all entries of IRS Form 8824 Part III, lines 12-25.   Also by right-clicking on the input box, the ‘+’ and add the entries thereon pop up box.
  2. Side two/Schedule-A must be completed, which was left out in 2019.

California E-filing finally accepted after many iterations with the following correction in the FTB form-3840.

  1. The title tag to the form 3840 should be exactly the same as used in the initial year of 3840, in my case of 2019.  This tag comes from the very first input box underneath the form’s title Like-Kind exchange, also this tag will appear on the Turbo-FORMs section in “Forms in my Return”  on the left side column.  You may see it as “Copy 1” when you started very first after last year forms imported by Turbo.
  2. Part I, Line 1 & 2: Address of the property:
  3. In Turbo 2020, it seems there may be a glitch in the input box right side for Parcel and county, no matter what I tried so many times,  but it was rejected as the bad entries.
  4. The only way to input the address on the left-side box. My property is vacant land, so there was no street number to the land, but I had the street name.  I made the entries:

Blk # Lot #, Street Name

APN #, County;                      ( make sure have “;”)

City, State, Zip-code

  1. Side two/Schedule-A must be completed.

California E-file rejected three times even the correction line suggested in form 3840

I had the same problem with this form. It says incomplete like-kind property addresses but they are not. TurboTax made me input fake addresses into some of the extra address lines that were not needed--only then would it let me submit but then it was rejected anyways. There is room for 3 properties/addresses but I only had one relinquished property that went to 3 replacement properties.

Now the help desk is just telling me I have to print and mail in the return. And they will not refund the fee I paid to e-file...even though the service did not work.

I'm using a different service next year.

Eureka, I may have found it! Had the same problem: Form 3840 Part II Property Received Address although correct, the transmittal was rejected multiple times and TT Support couldn't figure it out. Finally noticed that in that Property Received section, where there is space for 3 properties (D,E F), the State field on the unused E property appeared to have been overwritten by TT with the same state as my D property. That was the only data in unused property E address fields so I removed it (choose BLANK), resaved and retransmitted and return was accepted. Surprised that I didn't notice this issue on previous attempts, but I'm good now!
