Amending

WHEN did you efile the amended return ?   And was the original return fully processed before you did the amendment ? 

Amended returns take 6 months or more to process this year AFTER the original return has finished processing.

I e-filed on June 8, 2021.  My original submission had been accepted, and Turbotax also said the amended file had been accepted.  Where is my amended file gave me a number to call and I was told by an individual that it had been received.  Since it was over 20 weeks, I was told that an email message was sent to the person assigned to review it and it would be another 30 days until I heard back.  In the meantime, continue checking where is my amended return once a day for any updates.

We filed 2021 taxes on feb. 1, 2022.

On Feb 7, we received a letter showing that we received

the economic impact payment.

We didn't remember this and therefore didn't

show it on 2021 taxes.

Do we need to file an amended return; or will the IRS

make adjustments and send refund?

The IRS knows that the stimulus payment was sent to you.  They will adjust your tax return accordingly.  If you are still owed a tax refund this may delay receiving the refund by several weeks, maybe longer.

You do not need to amend the 2021 tax return.
