Only the IRS controls when and if a tax refund is Approved and Sent.

Call the IRS:  1-800-829-1040  hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info).  Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.

Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".

Then press 3 "for all other questions."

Then press 2 "for all other questions."

- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.

- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Then press 2 and then 4 …

It should then transfer you to an agent.

Or you can contact your local IRS office.  See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment

Or you may want to contact a Taxpayer Advocate in your area.  See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate in your area and a toll free number - http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate

Amended return going on a year wait

I already received the refund with my first filing. I am due little more with the amendment though. I am wondering if the amendment being scanned into system but not processed will hold up my stimulus check though. And I cant get an advocate as they tell me they wont take my case to escalate it,even though im facing eviction, because I still have a federal offset against me for student loans from DOE. Even though the DOE has made it clear and the IRS advocates know that they are not following through on collections through end of January. They STILL say I do not qualify for an advocate to waste their precious time unless I have the garnishment lifted. DOE wont lift it, they just say they wont enforce it for now but that it stays. So the stimulus is my only hope for avoiding eviction!

Keep in mind..I sent amended return in March. Was scanned into system August and the 16 week wait started at that time. And has come and gone. I MUST have some recourse! Does Turbotax haveany leeway? You prepared my amended return too!

As stated on the IRS website for the status of an amended federal tax return - https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return

COVID-19 Mail Processing Delays

It’s taking us longer to process mailed documents including:

  • Paper tax returns, and
  • All tax return related correspondence.

We are processing all mail in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or call the IRS.

TT cannot help you at all ... Intuit is a company who sells DIY programming and has no legal right to intervene with the IRS on your behalf.

And amended returns have been taking 6 months or more to process so the typical 4 months is moot.

Try  calling to check the status of your refund at the IRS website.

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

800-829-1040

First choose your language.
Then 2
Then 1
Then 3
Then 2
When asked for SSN do nothing it will ask twice
Then 2
Then 4
You should then be transferred to an agent, but there is likely to be a long wait.

If they can't assist you can try the Tax Advocate in your state. most are working remotely and have a backlog.
