I amended my 2020 tax return in October 2021. A couple weeks ago I received a check for about 80% the refund owed. At the time, the IRS amended return portal said that I should receive an explanation of what the IRS adjusted within a few weeks.
I just received a CP21B notice with the only explanation on it basically saying "we made the changes you requested as a result your due a refund of $####. If you don't agree then call us, otherwise we'll assume you agree."
I obviously still have no idea what changes they made. Calling the number still gets the "we can't take your call due to high call volumes, try again later" message.
I downloaded my tax transcripts but they don't really make any sense. The taxable income figure has been updated to match my amended return, but total tax figure still shows the non updated figure...which doesn't make sense because they did refund me most of what I asked for which implies that my 2020 total tax would have been updated.
What should me next steps be to figure out what the IRS adjusted on my 2020 amended return? Thank you.
