Yes, if you amend your return after your original return has been processed and remove a credit that had increased your refund then you will have to pay back the difference.
Please wait until your refund or payment is processed before filing an amended return (1040X). Please be aware that you can e-file your 2021 amended federal tax return, but most states require amendments to be printed and filed by mail. Please see How to amend a tax return for instructions (this will be updated once the 2021 Form 1040-X is ready).
Your 1040 and 1040-X are processed separately.
To avoid serious hassle, you should wait for 1040 to finish, if possible.
Taxes are due April 18th.
I haven’t received anything yet, i filed Jan.20th 2022 & amendend on Jan.24th the amended was received on the 29th of Jan. 2022. The amended 1040x was electronically filed & It’s still nothing showing up.
But the tax preparer added tax credits she wasn’t suppose to which is the reason why She had to amend my original 1040. Did she mess me up?
