I already sent out my federal taxes but realized I deleted a dependent when I was editing information this morning, do I wait for the federal refund to process then amend ?, also if I haven't sent off my state can I add my dependent to fix that or just wait

    If you filed, it is like dropping it into a mailbox - you cannot get it back.

    You'll have wait until your return is either accepted or rejected.

    • If rejected, you can make any necessary changes.
    • If accepted, you'll need to amend your return
    • To avoid unnecessary delays, do not amend until your original return has been fully processed.  You will need to print and mail the amendment.  
    • Allow 8-12 weeks for processing.

    You can check the status of your amended return here, but allow 3 weeks after filing for it to show up.

    what do you mean by fully accepted

    "Fully accepted" would actually mean approved. Once they approve your return, they will issue you a refund. The IRS releases most refunds with some exceptions, within 21 calendar days after the e-filed return has been approved, not 21 days from the e-filing date.
