I filed my 2019 taxes but inadvertently left my status as "Can be claimed as a dependent" so I haven't received any stimulus payments. Didn't think about it when I filed and left it checked same as I did last year. Problem is, I was not claimed as a dependent for the 2019 tax year. Question is, should I file an amended return and will that trigger the stimulus payments? Just a stupid mistake that I would like to correct.

You do need to amend your 2019 tax return. You can claim on your 2020 tax return, assuming that you are not a dependent in 2020.
If you did not receive your first and/or second stimulus payment or if the amount received is not correct, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return as the Recovery Rebate Credit.
In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:
Thank you. On TurboTax desktop, I can not find a way to change this status. 1040-x doesn't have any way to change this from original filing.
The 1040X does not have that box. You must just write in the reason for amending that it is to change the status, but it will probably have not affect on your tax or stimulus since the is no longer using the 2019 return for the stimulus - they are using the current 2020 tax return now. 1040X takes 6 months to process and your 2020 tax return will be filed long before the 1040X is processed anyway.
Just file a 2020 tax return and answer the stimulus questions and any stimulus owed to you will become part of your 2020 tax return.
