Hello. I filed my son's 2019 taxes assuming I could claim him as a dependent on mine, so his were filed as "someone else can claim me as a dependent". He was a full time college student through Dec 2019. When I began to do my taxes I realized I could not claim him (he turned 24 on Dec 31, 2019 and earned $8,000 in 2019). Do I need to amend his taxes? He received a full federal refund of all the taxes he paid throughout 2019. The only thing I can see this affecting would be his stimulus check. Thanks for your help.

Yes, you should amend your son's taxes. If he is eligible for an education credit he cannot claim one if he is a dependent taxpayer. Please follow the directions in this TurboTax FAQ to prepare the amendment.
Note: You will need to mail the amended return. This type of return is not eligible for electronic filing.
