Do not amend for that. The IRS is cross checking and they will see how much you received. Then they will reduce the refund that was shown on your tax return--which might delay your refund.
I have been unemployed for the last 5 years. As a married couple my ex-husband has used me as a dependent on his taxes at the end of each year. As a married couple we received the stimulus checks based on his income and our marital status. We since divorced before the end of this year.
I am now employed this year since Sept and just filed single for 2021. I checked "no" for receiving the 3rd stimulus because technically it was my ex that received it not me. Do I need to amend my return ?
The IRS will be manually reviewing the return to determine if eligible for recovery rebate. If they see it was issued they’ll deny your refund.
So they will deny the whole thing ? or just the rebate part ?
A spouse can never be claimed as a dependent on a tax return. So more likely you and your spouse were filing a joint return and you did not understand that. The stimulus checks issued were issued to both of you. Check your online IRS account to see what the IRS shows for you. You cannot get that same stimulus money twice.

The IRS cross checks every return with an amount on line 30, so if you made a mistake the IRS will catch it and reduce your refund by $1400. Expect a delay in processing.
Thank you for clarifying that !!
I appreciate the information.
You are correct I did not understand those details.
Just the rebate part.
