Yes, that can happen if you make any changes to the return before indicating that you need to amend it.
You can fix this by canceling the amendment and making sure the return matches the one that was filed. Once the original return is restored, you can start again.
Here's how to restore your return in TurboTax Online:
Once it matches, print or save a copy and start again:
Using desktop version, not the online version. This is not the first time I have had to amend a current year tax return in Turbo tax so I know the procedure; in previous years, my amended return reset to 0 and all went well.
As I stated, I have NOT made any changes whatsoever to my 2023 filed tax return. As soon as I do the amended, instead of rest to 0 for federal tax, it indicates I owe over $1800 BEFORE I enter anything. Totally BOGUS. Column A is NOT pulling the correct AGI nor the correct Refund amount from my return. And, it seems to be pulling the amount from line number 28 from federal carryover worksheet instead of my original refund from filed 2023 return. There is an issue with software coding!!
If I override these invalid numbers in Column A with the correct values from my return, then the federal tax resets to 0.
Yes, I have the same problem. I open the original return as filed, without changes, try to amend it, and the original amount in box A1 is copied incorrectly from the original return. This problem has been reported for many years, but is not acknowledged (or fixed) by Intuit.
I am also having the same issue. It claims that I paid an amount that is incorrect. In addition I was not able to efile. There is No Way to Edit the PDF for filing by mail.
I can not load the incorrect return at all, and it has the numbers wrong. The only way I think I can do it by mail, is to edit the pdf form....
This really sucks, because it automatically puts in an amount not paid as paid.
Any help?
You can fill out Form 1040-X by hand. get the latest version in fillable PDF format from the IRS website.
Reply back if you don't know the rules for assembling a paper amended tax return, OR read the instructions.
According to the forum, you're going to have to mail a 2023 amendment
