2021 Taxes - Turbotax did not calculate EIC - IRS Sent letter and form stating eligibility

My son filed his taxes in Turbotax (TT) and it did not calculate the EIC. IRS sent letter along with form 15112. He filled and mailed form. No response, upon several phone call to IRS - he was told they did not receive the form and now he has to file amended 1040X with 15112. I started the amended return and TT is stating NOT eligible for EIC.

His AGI - is less than $16K. He is single and was full time student in 2021.  Some of the income was from self-employment like food delivery.

Is there a way to make TT calculate EIC. What triggers EIC? Any help will be appreciated.

How old is he?  If he is a full time student under 24, he would not qualify for the EITC

You must be at least 25 years old.

Claim the EITC Without a Qualifying Child

You are eligible to claim the EITC without a qualifying child if you meet all the following rules. You (and your spouse if you file a joint tax return) must:

  • Meet the EITC basic qualifying rules
  • Have your main home in the United States for more than half the tax year
    • The United States includes the 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. military bases. It does not include U.S. possessions such as Guam, the Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico
  • Not be claimed as a qualifying child on anyone else's tax return
  • Be at least age 25 but under age 65 (at least one spouse must meet the age rule)
