2020 Amended Return - TurboTax doesn't allow me to select a return to amend

I got a revised 1099-DIV and I'm trying to do an amended return. I start TurboTax Premier 2020 (Macintosh - downloaded version) and, with no return open, click on "amend a return…" from under "Manage Your Returns". I answer a couple questions and then it takes me to "What do you need to change on your return?" and it lets me input the new info. It, however, never asks me to select what return I want to amend, so I'm at a complete loss as to how that would work.

I've also tried starting out with the original return open, but I don't see a way to amend it from there.

I went back to the 2019 version of TurboTax to see how it dealt with amending a return and it does the same thing - never asks what return I want amended.

Is there something wrong with the application, or at least an issue with it on my computer, or am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

2020 Amended Return - TurboTax doesn't allow me to select a return to amend

First you need to update your return with the filing status so it knows it was filed and accepted.  For the Desktop program you have to check the filing status inside the program.

Open your return and go up to menu item

File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status

Then save your return and close and reopen it.

The jump to search is tricky to use.  If it isn't working on your Mac program, then open your return and it may say Amend on the first screen.  Or maybe it will be before you open your return.  Go to File-Open and before clicking on your return see if it says Amend somewhere.

Or after you open your return and make a Duplicate like the Amend FAQ says, go to

Federal Taxes or Personal (Deskop H&B)

2020 Amended Return - TurboTax doesn't allow me to select a return to amend

Thanks VolvoGirl. Checking e-file status did reset it so that when I reopened the return it showed the original "splash" screen that allows me to select "Amend a return…" and then applies the changes to the return as it should.

Unfortunately, something is going whacky with the state return (Arizona) as it shows me getting a large refund instead of owing more like it should. When I start the amended return, instead of resetting the state to zero in the refund monitor it's changing it to a $1,500+ refund. I didn't e-file my state return, so perhaps that's causing some issues. I'll have to delve deeper into the state file to see what is going wrong. The state return itself looks right, but the state amended form doesn't.

As a quick followup, the state amended return was showing the wrong amount for what was paid with the return. No idea where it got the number it put in there. I just overrid the amount.
