I filed my 2019 Fed tax return in April 2020. I was charged for e-file by Turbotax. It is still pending. Why would this happen?

You were not charged for "e-file"-- you were charged for using the software to prepare your tax return. The fee is the same whether you e-file or mail the return.
And what do you mean by "pending?"
Did you e-file? Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?
Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”
Note: If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself. TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.
Yes I e-filed. I clicked button to submit. My account screen shows "Federal Return Pending". It has not been accepted yet according to main account screen in Turbotax. I've used Turbotax many times in the past. Not a rookie. Never received a rejected or accepted email either. I've tried calling Turbotax multiple times and can't talk to a real person. I know how to login in to look at the status. The status is "Federal Return Pending". Now what?
