So, this last tax year was the last year to file for my 2017 taxes, so I did. I know i got them in the mail on time, with a few weeks to spare. When can I expect word from the IRS? I still see nothing in my it's account for that year. I'd like to know if I'm getting a refund / owe the IRS. What can I do moving forward with this?

The only way you can still receive a refund for a 2017 tax return is if you either filed before May 17, 2021 or if you had an extension ---which you had to get in 2018---you still have time to get a 2017 refund. Mailed returns are taking MONTHS to be processed, so do not expect quick results from mailing in your 2017 return. Nothing is going to show up on the IRS refund site for a 2017 return. That site only shows information for the current 2020 tax returns.
Not sure why you say you do not know if you are getting a refund or if you owe------what was the result shown on the tax return? If you owed tax due your interest and penalties have been adding up since 2018, so eventually you will get a bill from the IRS.
You do not say which form you used for that 2017 tax return, so you need to look for the form you used and then the line for the refund or how much you owe
1040EZ
Refund line 13a
Tax Due line 14
1040A
Refund line48a
Tax Due line 50
Form 1040
Refund line 75
Tax Due line 78
Again--unless you filed before it was too late, a refund has been forfeited. But tax due has to be paid.
There is really nothing for you to do now but wait.
