Hello,

I have filed my tax returns but missed accounting for the form 1095 A. I may have to file the 8862 form for advance tax credits. How do I do it now? Both my fed and state returns are in the accepted stages.

Sign into TurboTax.

Click the button Add a State to get back into your tax return.

Then follow these steps for the 1095-a

  • Federal
  • Deductions and Credits
  • Medical
  • Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)

When you fill in the information from your 1095-A it will create the 8962 form

Now print your return to a pdf file

You can find the 8862 form and print that to have ready

The IRS will contact you with directions for FAX or mail the 8962.

For the 8862 here are the directions with a video

Once your return has been e-filed and accepted, there is no way to get it back.  The directions above will assist you with any issues with the 1095-A and the 8862.

Hello, Thanks for replying. Would'nt I be able to use the form 1040-X to amend my returns when the form becomes available? Right now it shows it may be available on 26th of March

Yes, you could do it that way but the result will be the same. The refund/tax due won't change, you'll just generate Form 8962.

Hello,

I have an update about my situation. I filed my amended returns along with the 1095-A. I also intended to return the advance tax credit for the stimulus payments that I filed for. However, the amount due was debited from my bank account without the original form being processed. So my question is: how can the IRS process an amended return without first looking at the original? What is the way out if I want to get my money back?

You are not ever supposed to file an amended return until the original is settled financially. The IRS specifically states not to file an amended return if the 1095-A is the only issue, in the letter they send out when working on your original tax return.

The advance premium tax credit was changed in March to not have to be repaid. Once the IRS figures out that they took money that is no longer required, they will issue a refund.

Thank you for responding!

Yes. My mistake. When I inquire the status of my original return on Wheres my refund tool on the IRS website it says no record found. Is that normal? Will calling them and letting them know of my situation help?

It is normal to see the "no record found" message on the IRS refund tool until your return is processed. You might get a notice that your return is accepted, but until it is processed you may see that message.

Thanks for replying!

However my tax status did show up earlier on the same website. Now its not. Also how can I inform the IRS about my error of filing the amended return?
