Track my federal refund

It has been over 3 weeks.  How do I track the status of my federal refund?
Best answer by xmasbaby0

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.

Once your return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS.

To track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433

On the IRS site you are also offered the use of an app called IRS2Go

If you mailed your return:  The IRS asks you wait 4 weeks after you mail your return before looking up your refund at Where's My Refund?

Most Federal REFUNDS are issued within 21 business days of the return being accepted by the IRS (this is not based on when you filed).

Please keep in mind that once you e-file or mail your return only the IRS has any control over it.

The IRS will notify TurboTax when your return is accepted, there are no more updates given for the next 2 stages of Processing and Approval

You have to go to Where's my Refund to get any further information.

Here is help for tracking your Federal Refund:

If you qualified for the Earned income credit or Additional Child Tax Credit here is more information about the PATH Act delay, but keep in mind that the IRS site for Where's my refund, https://www.irs.gov/refunds  is the final authority.

While most refunds are issued within 21 days of the return being accepted, not the date it was filed, sometimes there can be delays.

Please see the following information about contacting the IRS if it has been more than 21 days since your return was accepted:

@bap2 You are posting to a two year old thread.  No wonder no one paid any attention to it.  However, the answer below is still correct--if your return was accepted, then only the IRS has any information.  TurboTax does not know what the IRS is doing with your refund.  You can only track it on the IRS site.  You have to enter your SSN, your filing status and the exact refund amount from line 20a of your 2018 Form 1040 to track your federal refund.

Did you mail federal and state in separate envelopes?  Federal goes to a different place.  Some people have been mailing both together to the state.

And Make sure you are using the refund amount from your actual federal tax return and not the combined amount Turbo Tax showed you at the end. That was for federal and state combined.

i never got my federal tax return for 2018 where did it go?

@richardtaylor2010

Was your return accepted?

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?

https://www.irs.gov/refunds           Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”

Note: If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself.  TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20a of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

@AndreaSpires

This is an old thread.  What is the exact issue you are having?  Are you needing to just track your refund?  To do this, please see the link here: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/wheres-my-refund/

How do you know if your taxes went through

VolvoGirl

Did you go all the way through the File tab, through the 3 steps and hit the big orange Transmit Returns Now button?

You can check your efile status here

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

When you efile you get back 2 emails.  The first email only confirms the transmission.  The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile.

When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc.

Per the IRS, most refunds are received within 21 days from the time a return has been accepted (received). For the most up-to-date information regarding the status of your tax return and a specific date of when to expect your refund, please visit the IRS Where's my Refund? site.

For additional information, please see the TurboTax FAQ When will I get my IRS refund?

To track the progress of your state tax return, see the TurboTax FAQ How do I track my state refund?

It's been 3 weeks. When will I get federal returns

Level 12
February 17, 2020

The IRS issues most refunds in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review.  Returns with the EIC or Additional Child Tax Credit may take a little longer to be deposited due to the PATH Act.
