2nd Stimulus

I would like to know how TurboTax think they do not share the blame in this mess considering they created accounts to receive their payment from your return.  I received my 1st stimulus check  with NO problem.  WE DO NOT want to hear it was the IRS error your company have a part in this as well.  According to MSN & CNET

this issue has been resolved on Friday....so WHY are we getting this email stating 1-10-21

"Unfortunately, for some tax filers affected by the IRS error, stimulus payments are still at the IRS. Without the IRS releasing these funds to us, we do not have a way to get your payment to you. The IRS will need to re-issue your stimulus payment.
According to the IRS, stimulus payments are expected to be deposited into bank accounts by the end of January. You had the funds before so why didn't you release them to us then??? With the 3rd Stimulus on the way who in their right mind would want to go through this MESS again.  I'll decide if I use your services again when I get my 2nd  Stimulus check. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

TOTALLY DISGUSTED!!!!

What happened with your 2019 return?  What was wrong?

Did you efile or mail your return? When? They didn't start opening the mail until June that was stacking up. Back in March the IRS closed their processing centers and stopped processing mailed tax returns.
See this IRS page for the latest information
    https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

If you efiled....Was your return Accepted? When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile.

Then only the IRS can tell you. IRS Where's my refund https://www.irs.gov/refunds/
Make sure you are using the refund amount from your actual federal tax return and not the combined amount Turbo Tax showed you at the end. That was for federal and state combined.

When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc.  what does it say?

You stated this perfectly! I was sent an email on the 10th about a wrong account, they said that my stimulus will be sent to me within 5 days of the new account and if you do not get it please contact us. Ok, well.... it has been 11 days and still nothing and contact you....really...how!

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this! I received my 2nd stimulus check with no issues at all. I’ve been using Turbo for years, never had an issue that wasn’t resolved in a very timely manner! Maybe try to personally communicate with a representative instead of posting on the community forum?! Best of luck

I am certain several of us whom have still not received our payments have tried contacting turbo tax before posting on this. This was my last resort. The irs blames turbo.. turbo blames the irs. It’s a joke really. It is January 27th and the irs site still says they do not have enough info or I do not qualify. The same thing it has said this entire time. I do not care whose to blame, I just want the money that is owed to me.

The IRS recently began issuing a second round of stimulus payments to those eligible. Unfortunately, because of an IRS error, millions of payments were sent to the wrong accounts and some may not have received their stimulus payment.  If your second stimulus payment was delivered to a card that you no longer have, you may be able to get a replacement card.  See this TurboTax Help.

If you were entitled to a stimulus payment but did not receive one, and you didn’t pay for TurboTax with your refund last year, you may need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 tax return to get your money.

In TurboTax Online, you are prompted to input stimulus check 1 and stimulus check 2 information under Review down the left hand side of the screen.

You can access your stimulus check choices by following these steps:

    • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
    • Across the top of the screen, click on Other Tax Situations.
    • At the screen Let’s keep going to wrap up.  Click on Let’s keep going.
    • At the screen Let’s make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
    • At the screen Did you get a stimulus payment? you can update your stimulus check entries.

TurboTax will compare your two payment amounts to the computation within TurboTax.  The computations within TurboTax are based upon the information that has been entered into the tax software.  If you are due an additional amount, it will be issued as a Rebate Recovery Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return.

I’m so sorry that you are going through this! I, as well of many others, can relate to your hardship personally!

However, please understand that this situation is not the fault of Turbo Tax, rather the IRS has created this situation due to their “mistakes”.  Also, this situation is not solely with Turbo Tax, there are multiple tax prep companies that are dealing with the same situation! Please read below the information from The Motley Fool, I hope this helps you to better understand.
“TurboTax began distributing the stimulus payments mistakenly sent their way. If you are a TurboTax customer, check your bank account. You may find that your stimulus money has already been deposited. If not, TurboTax plans to make deposits into the bank account listed on your 2019 taxes. If you've changed banks since receiving your last stimulus check, your old bank is legally required to return the funds to the IRS. If that's the case, you'll need to wait until you file your 2020 tax return to provide the IRS with your new account information. If you're eligible for a $600 stimulus check, you can file a Recovery Rebate Credit claim at that time (line 30 of Form 1040 or 1040-SR).

Taxpayers who filed using TurboTax in 2019 were not the only ones impacted by the payment glitch. Customers of H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, and other tax preparation services experienced the same delay in payment, and for the same reason. Tax preparation companies across the country were quickly apprised of the situation and are working with the IRS to get money to the rightful recipients.”

In your program, be sure that you have seen the screen to tell TurboTax what you have received so far for each of the stimulus payments.

This is done before the Federal Review and after Other Tax Situations.

In case you did not see the Stimulus payment section to make adjustments, this may need to be updated. You need to be at the end of Other Tax Situations, to make any adjustments. To get there in TurboTax, follow these steps:

    • In your return, click the Other Tax Situations tab toward the top of the page
    • Scroll down to the end and click Let's keep going
    • At Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue
    • Be sure to report an amount for each of the stimulus payments as received and click Continue

To check other IRS Resources, see: Questions and Answers about the Second Economic Impact Payment which is still getting updates.

To check your payment status with the IRS, go to: Get My Payment Link

The IRS will continue to make stimulus payments until February 5.  Continue to check the IRS Get My Payment website to see if a bank deposit is made or if a check or debit card is issued.  After February 12, if these is still no payment made then follow these steps to add the payment to your 2020 tax refund.

At the top of your tax return select Federal Review

    Insert fed review pic

That will take you to this screen where it asks if you have already received your stimulus payments.  If you received the first or second payment already, then select Yes and fill in the information.  If you did not receive any payment select No.  If you received the first payment only, fill in that amount and put zero (0) for the second payment.

When the screen is correct, you refund will be adjusted for the amount of stimulus payment that will be added to your 2020 refund.

Please remember that the individuals who receive your complaint will not be the people responsible for your complaint. It's more than understandable for you to be upset by what happened, but civility is crucial at times like these. TurboTax told you themselves in the e-mail that you received: they can't give you money they do not have. If there is an issue on the side of the IRS, that is an issue that must be resolved by the IRS. Yelling at TurboTax customer service will not give you benefits or results. It's like going to a store and yelling at a cashier because they can't accept your coupons. There's nothing that can be done about it that yelling will accomplish. All you are going to do is make somebody who isn't at fault feel bad when they are just trying to help you. Worse still, you might make them not want to help you at all, which will mean you may not get a resolution, let alone a satisfactory resolution. Please remember the person on the other side of the screen. If you wouldn't act that way in real life, you should not act that way online. If you would act that way in real life, then that raises different concerns.

I hope that since you posted this you have received your Stimulus Payment as it was supposed to arrive by the end of January, but if the Stimulus Payment had not arrived, there is a field on the tax return for this year where you can report not having received it. This way, you can get your missing stimulus payment with your tax return. I understand it's inconvenient, but it's better that it is inconvenient than it is impossible.

In reality it has a lot to do with the IRS because the 2nd time they sent the payments to other sources that people had used like the bank cards, different accounts etc. So the IRS has a lot to do with it for sure but at least they did fix most people.

    Level 4

You may not want to hear that it was the IRS, but it was.  It wasn't "TurboTax" that "created" the second account - you essentially did that when you agreed to pay for your return out of your refund instead of paying for it outright.  It's all in the fine print that no one ever reads.

Even still, the IRS gets the information on BOTH accounts when you file - your and the "intermediary" one, and particularly after the first round of payments where there was a similar issue they were well aware of this issue and that they had the data they needed to make the payments right, but in their rush to get them out, they didn't do it right.

TurboTax and H&R Block and the like had absolutely no obligation to step in and help, at their own expense, but they did anyway.  You shouldn't be disgusted.  You should be grateful.  This is what is wrong with America - 1- our citizens are so incredibly poorly educated about even the most BASIC things like taxes and banking and 2 - everyone thinks they are entitled to something.

I have tried to be more understanding with this particular issue because I know that people are out there suffering but get a grip, people, TurboTax didn't do this to you.  Your own government AND YOU did this to yourself.

    Level 4

Oh, and if you didn't get the e-mail from TurboTax, it probably means there is a different issue holding up your payment such as a problem with your 2019 tax return.  Not everyone with a delay was part of this particular issue.  Millions of people had other issues that had nothing to do with their software.
