I got married last year and we are going to file jointly but we both have our own TT accounts. Do we need to open a new account together?

You could use one of your existing accounts. The 2015 information for the person whose account you use will be transferred to your 2016 tax return. You will have to change the marital status, then enter the other person's information manually. The person whose account you use will be listed first on your joint return.

You can also create a new account and start from scratch, if you prefer to do it that way.
