How do I enter schedule c expenses without upgrading to turbotax self employed

Good idea.  One thing you can do is buy a lower version of the Desktop program like Deluxe.  Then you can switch from Online without starting over.  You can download the .tax2018 file from online for free and open it in the Desktop program (any version).  And the Desktop program has several other features and benefits over the Online version too.

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW).

What did you end up using? I don't need all the bells and whistles. I know how to complete a schedule C. Switch to a different software?

You can try TT Desktop, but direct entry on forms can void the accuracy guaranty, and preclude efiling.
