obtaining the stimulus should have nothing to do with whether you file married-joint or separate.
filing separate could cost a lot more in tax because there are often benefits you lose by filing separate
unless you get that advise from a qualified tax professional and he/ she gives you valid reasons for it, I would not follow it
She collects SSI/Disability and should be receiving her stimulus through SSI, I do not work and stay home due to the amount of care. I do not get paid, the people at SSI said they were not sure how to file, other than married filing separately since she would be receiving a check through them.
@legionexus - did you file in 2018 or 2019? I am confused because you state you do not work
are you required to file in 2018 or 2019?
based on your response, I can suggest a path forward
@NCpersonI haven't had to file since 2017, I had to quit work to take care of my wife since then.
then all yo have to do is file as a non-filer / single
there is no married-separate designation and your spouse should get the stimulus later this week
