Wife and I were still married (divorce decree came 1/18) through '17, but lived apart. If we both have separate children in separate houses, can we both files as HoH?

Yes. You each must be claiming one of the children, that lived with you, as a dependent.
You must have been physically separated for the entire last half of the year.
