Yes, the running total doesn't appear until you put in all of your income and Review the return. This is a change this year.
The reason for this change is that people would call and ask why their refund would drop when you put in more income, or why it didn't increase with every deduction entered.
If you want to see the refund so far after every item is entered, you can enter one income item and then skip to Review. The refund will show up and you can watch it go up and down as you complete your return.
Thank you for a valid and thorough response @JulieS
However... I do have one W2 completed, and I did go to review... After I finished the W2 it even gave me the update in the regular middle screen to show what may current refund would be at the moment.
After trouble shooting, I did both review sections, but still nada.
Thoughts?
Thank you,
JR
It was the "Federal Review" that I had to do before the running total showed up, not the "Review" at the end.
this is what i did.click review, then it will open the tools on the left side.click tool, then tax summary.it will show everything.not convenience anymore
Yeah, I've finished all of my income and interest etc, went through the entire federal review, went through the entire final review, and it still doesn't show up. Just the speed racer toggle button on/off (doesn't change if the amount shows up), and no carrot/arrow that displays/undisplays.
I think I concur with one of the users that there is an A/B experiment sampling going on.
I agree with the other users who cannot see the running tax obligation at the top of the screen. This is frustrating and a terrible choice for TT to eliminate. For a user to be able to visualize their tax responsibility is essential because often we're making mistakes and don't realize it until we see the number going up or down. This is my eighth year using TurboTax and it's time to move on to another product.
SOLUTION: although not really. Hit the TOOLS button on the left of the screen and when the box pops up, hit View Tax Summary on the list. This will show you your bottom line.
"Yes, the running total doesn't appear until you put in all of your income and Review the return. This is a change this year. "
Nope, this still doesn't work. I tried multiple browsers. There is no option that shows up to see the running total. And on Microsoft edge I wasn't even getting the links to the left with '2023 taxes, my info, federal, etc'. It only the 'tax home' page with big bubble options. Super annoying!
I agree, the worst decision ever
worst decision ever!
That's really a pain! I saw that information in previous years, this year my account has some problem, I have to clear and re-start, the monitor is gone! I feel turbo tax has a big but in the APP design, I pay for the premium, I feel my money is wasting
So they've completely destroyed one of the most critical core functionalities of the software because they don't want to provide support to their paying customers? They literally took away your ability see what you are doing & think for yourself because they don't want you asking questions ?!? The ONLY edge Turbo Tax has on it's competition is EASE OF USE. So what do the geniuses at Turbo Tax do? Make it HARDER TO USE. This is predatory behavior to try to upsell you tax services so you'll pay extra for one of their "advisors" to do what you used to be able to easily do yourself. After 2 decades of using Turbo Tax I'm dumping it RIGHT NOW. This is the most insulting, slimy, self-sabotaging nonsense I've ever seen.
Thank you! Not perfect but much better than going through it blind. I've been using turbo tax 20+ years and seen them screw up a lot of things over the years, but this takes the cake. It's unforgivable.
Here is a FAQ: Why don’t I see the tracker that shows my refund or taxes owed?
This is a bad decision. I feel like calling support and complaining if support calls are the reason features are being removed.
Real world use case: I have multiple rental properties and have done significant work in rehab. I have the option to take all depreciation up front or spread it over time. The old way, I could see when I was making a bad impact on my taxes and expense an asset to manage my refund amount. Now I can't see it. Very annoying.
Both in Quickbooks and in TurboTax, Intuit seems to be solving for what Intuit wants even if that means making the customer experience WORSE.
