Why is my federal return $2,225 lower when I go to file

As you answer questions and enter information, the software continues to 'calculate' your estimated tax refund or amount due. The estimate isn't final until you've finished going through the federal area of the software. That may be why amounts changed. You can always go back and review the previous sections where you thought the amounts were different.
