Why is my estimated return so small?

I didn't get married till dec 31st and I'm afraid that that is keeping me from getting a larger tax return even though we weren't married till the end of the year.

If you were legally married as of Dec. 31, 2016, then your filing choices are Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separately. If you were married on the last day of the year, you are considered to be married for the entire year..
