Why is it required to upgrade to deluxe to be able to include my alimony income?

Alimony income requires the new schedule 1 which is not supported by the Free Edition. It is entered on line 11 of schedule 1 and then entered on line 6 of form 1040. You must upgrade to Deluxe to enter it.

You may be eligible for another free program called the Free File program. https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2026912-how-do-i-switch-to-turbotax-free-file-program

You qualify if you had $34,000 or less AGI or $66,000 or less military family AGI or qualify for EITC. Click on See if you qualify then Yes (if you do) then Start Now button, then choose Create an Account.
