@LeoII @I left this unchecked and it’s still asking for PAYERS EIN and all the 1099-NEC has is the last 4 digits and Xs. It’s clearly and EIN and not SSN too

I think the IRS only looks at schedule C line 1. So as long as line 1 is the same or more than your 1099NEC forms it should be ok.
I just did this… had to ask the employer for the EIN. Thanks but this was annoying and irritating.
Finally figured out this headache. Leave box 4 "federal income tax withheld" BLANK, dont put in $0.
Any input into this box triggers a requirement for an EIN and won't allow a SSN

Thank you!!! Worked for me. Left the State blank as well.
I had $0 in withholds which was requiring me to add the EIN which I also didn't have. When I cleared the field and ensured it was blank, it let me submit.
