For security reasons, the IRS plans to mail a letter about the economic impact payment to the taxpayer’s last known address within 15 days after the payment is paid. The letter will provide information on how the payment was made and how to report any failure to receive the payment.
I never received letter of explanation from IRS.
I never received letter of explanation from IRS explaining why.
I haven't heard of any letters going out yet. Is one of them over 16? Has to be under 17 on Dec 31.

Has it been over 15 days since your received the stimulus payment?
I just checked my mail from yesterday. I got a letter Notice #1444. But it only said the amount I got and by Direct Deposit
but not how it was figured or on what year tax return.
That purpose of that letter is only to tell you the amount and how it was paid out. How they came up with the amount we already know. If you are unclear Google search " guidelines for stimulus check " and the first link you will see is "economic impact payment" from the IRS.
It will give you the answer to your question.
You should get a letter soon or maybe even today.
