Why did i not qualify for eic on my children

We cannot see your tax return so we do not know.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number.    Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2024 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

Look at your 2024 Form 1040 to see the child-related credits you received

Why did i not qualify for eic on my children

If you did not qualify for the Earned Income Credit (EIC), then you did not meet all the requirements for claiming the EIC or you could have selected an invalid answer during the interview process.  The requirements for claiming the EIC are listed below:

  • Have a valid social security card
  • Be a US Citizen or a full-year resident alien
  • have earned income such as wages, salaries, self-employment income, etc.
  • meet the EIC income limits
  • Have less than $11,600 in investment income
  • You are not a qualified child on someone else's return
  • If married you are filing a Married Filing Joint return
