where would estimated taxes be reported in turbo tax

If you made estimated or quarterly tax payments in 2024 toward your federal, state, or local taxes, enter them in the Estimates and Other Income Taxes Paid section.

If you did not have estimated taxes and/or withholdings equaling 90% of you taxes due, you will have the underpayment penalty.  TurboTax will use information from your tax return to determine if the underpayment penalty is due.  It will then ask you questions to see if you can qualify for one of the exceptions.

The underpayment may be avoided if:

  • If the current taxes paid are equal to 100%, (110% for higher incomes) of your taxes owed the prior year.
  • The IRS also says you can probably avoid the penalty if the amount you owe is less than $1,000.
