Where in my downloaded software do I enter my Turbotax IP PIN? I did not use the online version. Using Search does not help.

@gr8day2play When I come across this question on the forum, the answer I provide is correct at the time of posting -

To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button

There is no "Federal Taxes" tab to click on! Your instructions do not work.

The instructions work just fine if you are using the TurboTax desktop editions -

To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button

If you are using the TurboTax online web-based editions instead -

To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN

Click on Federal on the left side of the online program screen

Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button

To enter your IP PIN in TurboTax, you can search for IP PIN and use the Jump to link, @formerprof .   Or you can go to Other Tax Situations, which will be under

Personal or Federal (up top or left side panel) >>> Other Tax Situations >>> Other Return Info >>> Identity Protection PIN , depending on your version.

@formerprof   If you have the Desktop Home &  Business program the Federal tab is broken out into Business and Personal.  So when you see to go to  "Federal"  you go to Personal.

There is no reason to make it so hard to find for those of us who basically do our own returns. And the "help" is no help.

Thanks for this clarification. I didn’t realize that the Home and Business version, which I use as a self-employed business person, doesn’t have a Federal tab like other versions, but instead has a Personal tab. Having it that way has created an immense amount of confusion and wasted time for me. I have documented this process for next year, assuming I decide to use TurboTax.

It's hard to help someone without knowing exactly what product you are using.    So first, please state exactly what product you are using (Online or desktop) and if desktop, what edition (Deluxe, Premier, Home and Business, etc).   NOTE:  Home and Business edition does not have a Federal tab--it has a Personal tab (more info below.)

If you are using desktop software, the navigation tabs are spread horizontally across the top.  If you are using Online TurboTax, the navigation tabs are oriented vertically in the left-column menu.

Are you by any chance using the Home and Business edition of the desktop software?    If so, it does not have a Federal tab.   Instead it has a Personal tab.    If that's the product you are using see this:

For the desktop software:

  • Open your return and at the top if you are using Home and Business version choose the PERSONAL tab (in the other desktop editions it's called the Federal tab).   Home and Business is the only product that has a Personal tab instead of the Federal tab.
  • Then choose the subtab "Other Tax Situations."
  • On the "Other Tax Situations" page scroll down to topic "Other Return Info."
  • Then you will see subtopic "Identity Protection PIN."

If you are not using desktop software but using Online TurboTax (web browser version), report back for different instructions.

In any case, if you still can't find it, report back and tell us exactly what product you are using, and I'll make you some screenshots.   Please state whether it's an Online or desktop product, and if desktop, what edition. There are also some screenshots higher up in this thread that might help you depending on what product you are using.   Did you look at those?
