TurboTax determines your filing status based on the information you provide when answering questions about yourself and your household. 

To change your filing status, you can do the following:

In TurboTax Desktop you will:

1. Go back to your "Personal Info" tab if you are using TurboTax Desktop
2. Follow the screens and answer the questions
3. You will come to the screen "Were You Married" and you can select your marital status
4. That screen says: "Make a selection and we'll recommend a filing status"
5. Answer the follow-up screens
6. You will come to a screen that says "We've Chosen a Filing Status For You"
7. You are given the option to "Change My Filing Status" by checking the box

In TurboTax Online you will:

1. Click on the "Search Icon"
2. Type "Filing Status" in the search bar
3. Click on "Jump to filing status"
4. Next to your name, click on the (down-facing) caret
5. Select "Revisit"
6. You will see a screen that says "About Your Household"
7. If you want to change your status, click on "Married"
8. More boxes will appear 
9. You can change your filing status
