From the Hawaii Tax Foundation: The Hawaii general excise tax is eligible for the state or local sales tax deduction for federal tax purposes on schedule A of form 1040. Remember that you can deduct only one - your state income taxes paid or your sale tax (in our case general excise tax) paid.

Can or cannot deduct Hawaii General Excise Tax paid on Schedule C as: Any other taxes imposed by city, state, county in order for you to conduct business ?
In Hawaii Real Estate Brokers must pay 4.712% GET on commission earned. Often clients refuse to pay GET on Realtor's sales commissions. When that happens the GET on commission earned is a business expense.
I was looking at the Turbo Tax, On Demand Tax Guidance when my eye caught "Any other taxes imposed by city, state, county in order for you to conduct business " from this list:
Taxes and License Expenses
Examples include:
- Payroll taxes for employees, such as Medicare, Social Security (FICA)
- Unemployment taxes for employees (Federal and State)
- Business licenses and permits
- Professional licenses and renewal fees
- Real Estate Taxes for business property
More examples:
- DBA/Fictitious Business Name one-time filing fee
- Incorporation fees
- Business name search fees
- Copyright application and registration
- Trademarks and logo fees
- Domain name search fees
- Software licensing and renewal fees
- Real estate taxes for an office you own (not your home office)
- Any other taxes imposed by city, state, county in order for you to conduct business
- Fee to acquire, draft or cancel a lease
- Certification upgrade fees
Did you ever get an answer to this?
I don't think I deducted Hawaii general excise taxes on my federal tax return. Can you deduct the 4% tax paid and filed in my semi-annual returns?
If so, can I refile my Turbo tax return?
