if you choose to mail it print out the 1040-V and follow TT filing instructions which will give you the mailing address for your payment and info that must be on the check so the IRS can apply it to the correct taxpayer and year. mailing address differs depending on your resident state. without the proper info on the check the IRS will cash it but put it into its unapplied funds a/c which means you won't get credit for it. use a method so you know it got there. you also have the option of using the IRS website to pay by various methods.
