When will Form NY IT-2 Summary of Form W-2 Statements be able to be efiled along with my tax return?

According to TT the firm can be filed by mail, but it is unsupported for e filing. I don't understand why? The IT-2 form that TT generates, appears in all respects to be the exact same form that is available from the NYS DTF website.

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file, which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the  directions below:”

TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent”
  3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  4. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

When you create the diagnostic file, be sure to post a response in this thread.

You can try this workaround to edit your W-2 information and see if it eliminates the issue:

TurboTax content developers have identified this issue and found a solution that will allow you to e-file your New York State return. Please follow the steps below:

 Open your return.

  1. Search W-2 with the magnifying glass tool at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Jump to W-2 link at the top of the search results.
  3. Click Edit next to your W-2.
  4. Scroll down to Box 14.
  5. For the Box 14 entries with category New York IRC 414(h) NY tax exempt, enter the letters NOT directly after your existing description input. Please do not include a space
  6. Click Continue
  7. Click File on the left hand side.
  8. Click Start next to Get ready to save and file your returns.
  9. Click Change next to 2023 New York Return.
  10. Select e-file and continue.

Per NYS, you're only required to electronically file your return if you meet all three of the following conditions:

  • You use software to prepare your own personal income tax return
  • Your software supports the electronic filing of your return
  • You have broadband Internet access

You are qualified to mail in your return because your software does not support electronic filing of this form.

There is no penalty for mailing in your return.

If you are NOT including a payment, mail your return to:

STATE PROCESSING CENTER

PO BOX 61000

ALBANY NY 12261-0001

If you ARE including a payment (check or money order), mail your return (including Form IT-201-V) to:

STATE PROCESSING CENTER

PO BOX 15555

ALBANY NY 12212-5555

When will Form NY IT-2 Summary of Form W-2 Statements be able to be efiled along with my tax return?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. You wrote the following:

"For the Box 14 entries with category New York IRC 414(h) NY tax exempt, enter the letters NOT directly after your existing description input. Please do not include a space"

None of my w-2's (have 3) contain said entries with the category "New York IRC 414(h) NY tax exempt," That being the case, I went ahead and added the word "not" directly after the existing input descriptions that were contained in box 14 of the W-2 (only 2 of the 3 had entries).

That did not solve the issue. I still cannot e-file my state tax return; NOR can I e file my federal tax return. I suggest that you refer to support ID #[phone number removed]

You then wrote

"Per NYS, you're only required to electronically file your return if you meet all three of the following conditions:

You use software to prepare your own personal income tax return
Your software supports the electronic filing of your return
You have broadband Internet access

You are qualified to mail in your return because your software does not support electronic filing of this form."

That may work for you, but it does not work for me . . .because. . .I paid for e-file functionality; if the best solution intuit can offer is to manually file my tax returns, then I have not received the benefit of my bargain. I wonder if customers who are using H&R block's tax prep software are running into the same issue.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Thank you for providing us with a token.  Unfortunately, we were unable to find any data in your diagnostic file that would prevent an e-file of your return.
