When using the online product, you must upgrade to the Self Employed version to be able to enter 1099-MISC income for independent contractor work. It requires Schedule C which is only in Self Employed.

If you used the CD/download product, you could use any version because they all include Schedule C. However, you would get more guidance for entering the income and expenses with the Home & Business version.

@karl.reid  The Desktop download program is called Home & Business.  It is the same as the Online Self Employed version.   Do you want that?  What computer are you using?  Here is how to upgrade the Windows Desktop program

Actually all the Desktop programs have all the same forms, you just get more help in the Home & Business version.
