When you file your 2020 return, you'll have an opportunity to add the first two stimulus payments as a credit on your return if you did not already receive them, and the IRS will process the $1400 stimulus payment after they accept your return.
Thank you! I did file in February (submitted payment but have to mail the return in still) and claimed that I did not receive the first $600, but it was not included on the paperwork that I am owed this money. The total return was less than the amount owed from that stimulus check. Is this added in later? This is also before the third stimulus was given. Am I allowed to go back in and edit this information to claim I now have not received two checks?

Look at line 30 of the 1040 you filed. That's where the round 1 and round 2 rebate would be claimed, if you claimed it. It's not a separate check, it adds to your overall tax return and either increases your refund or decreases the amount you owe.
1) when you filed, what did you enter as the amounts you received for EACH of the first TWO stimulus payments
2) what was on line 30 of Form 1040?
3) why are you saying 'the first $600"? if you are single, you were entitled to $1200 for the first stimulus and $600 for the 2nd stimulus. The 3rd stimulus will get you $1400, but that is for next year's tax return.
4) what date did you file on TT? was it before or after Feb 12?
please post responses to each question and I think I can straighten this out.
This is all incredibly helpful, thank you.
I see that on line 30 I did claim the $600, so that answers that question! As for the $1400, I filed before this was issued, but still have not received it. Is there a way to amend this return once I mail it off to put that number in, or will I get this payment a year from now?
the $1400 is NOT part of the 2020 tax return.
The IRS is still getting the payments out, so sit tight. if you do NOT receive the $1400, it will reconcile onto Line 30 on the 2021 tax return next year and you will receive it at that time . There is no need to amend your return!
Very helpful, thank you!!!

The IRS has a statement on their web site that the round 3 payments will be sent on a rolling basis as 2020 tax returns are processed. This will be separate from your claimed refund.
The third round of Economic Impact Payments are being sent in phases. The IRS started sending the first batch of payments with an official payment date of March 17. If you haven’t received one yet, it doesn’t mean you won’t.
We’ll send the third payments each week to eligible individuals as we continue to process tax returns. Payments are sent by direct deposit or mail as a check or debit card.
