When I got done my total refund was 8660.00, then I got a email saying they accepted it and it went down to 3500.00 why ????

It could be due to an IRS or state refund offset. A refund offset is when a refund is reduced or intercepted to pay off delinquent debt. If it is due to an offset you will receive a letter in the mail that will explain the reason.
