A delay in processing can simply be that they are still backed up with processing returns at this time. If you do not have a reference code, there is nothing to be concerned about right now. And at this point, there is nothing that you or TurboTax can do until the government provides you with further details or sends you a letter stating you are being audited.
Once they accept your return, they provide no further updates to TurboTax nor allow TurboTax to access your return. So you have to keep an eye on their site to track the status. Keep in mind, IRS reps can only research your refund if it’s been at least 21 days since you e-filed, at least 6 weeks since you mailed your return, or if their Where’s My Refund? lookup tool tells you to contact them. Or they will reach out if they need additional information from you. Patience is virtue.
If you paid for Audit Defense or MAX and should need it, you can then reach out to TurboTax for next steps. But there is nothing to be done until an audit happens; if it even happens. Those services are only meant to provide you with full audit representation from a licensed tax professional, should an audit occur.
