Whats the Difference between 1099-HC and 1095-B

The main difference is one (Form 1095-B) is a federal form, while the other (Form 1099-HC is a Massachusetts form.  They both provide information about your heath coverage.

Form 1095-B

  • This form provides information about your health coverage, including who was covered, and when the coverage was in effect.
  • If Form 1095-B, Part IV, Column (d), shows coverage for you and everyone in your family for the entire year, you can simply check the full-year coverage box on your tax return.
  • If you did not have coverage for the entire year, use Form 1095-B, Part IV, Column (e), to determine the months when you or your family members had coverage. If there were months that you did not have coverage, you should determine if you qualify for an exemption from the requirement to have coverage. If not, you must make an individual shared responsibility payment.

Form 1099-HC

  • The 1099-HC form is a Massachusetts document which serves as proof of health insurance coverage for MA adult residents.  Every MA resident who has insurance will receive an annual 1099-HC form which is completed and provided by your insurance carrier.
  • You do not need to file Form 1099-HC.The form is informational and should be used to complete a new Schedule HC form with your MA residential tax form. Schedule HC is now a required tax return attachment for all MA residents.

Whats the Difference between 1099-HC and 1095-B

Hello. I had my insurance through my work until September 2019. I received a 1095-c. I never received a 1099 because it wasn’t private insurance.

You do not report a 1095-C on your return.  It is for informational purposes only.

Whats the Difference between 1099-HC and 1095-B

I have both 1099-HC and 1095-B - the HC form has 6 months checked off that I had insurance and the B form had 3 different months checked off - so total of 9 months for the year.  Do I combine the 9 months when checking off the months covered when i fill out the health insurance section for 1099-HC.

I am confused...

Thanks

Yes when you are checking the months you check each month you were covered- when you enter the information about the insurance you have to enter both separately.

Whats the Difference between 1099-HC and 1095-B

I have the same question. I’ve got a 1099-HC form for Jan,Aug-Dec. Then I received a 1095-B for Feb-Aug. TurboTax wants information found in a 1099-HC form and not what is in the 1095-B. There aren’t subscriber numbers in the 1095-B form.  I’m so confused. Obviously I had health insurance for the full year. How do I show both providers? Help!

Whats the Difference between 1099-HC and 1095-B

I had to go back to the insurance company that gave you the 1095-B form and ask them to also give you a 1099-HC form.  They should have both.   So you can get all the information and subscriber numbers
