What the F*** is TurboTax doing that is making everyone having to verify their identity?

I filed my stuff and so has several other people I know through TurboTax and they like me have had their refunds delayed due to having to verify their identity. Why is this happening?

 The IRS seems to be putting this new step into the process for many people to help cut down on Tax refund fraud.  Several states have also implemented new ID verification protocols for people to get their refunds as well.  This is not a TurboTax thing, it is happening with all providers due to the amount of ID theft that has been occurring over the past several years.
